CD to offer Life Skills Classes..
Just like hip huggers and bell-bottom jeans, once again the Community Development staff will be offering Life Skills classes. It has been four years since CD taught the classes in the communities we serve as part of the CSBG contract.
Four staff members, Sally McAffrey, Joanna Watson, Sharon Havens and Marcia Denny, will be covering the classes in four counties starting in October. Three community partners have already "signed on" to send clients to the classes. The frequency will depend upon the demand. All classes are flexible and can be designed for two to six hours in length.
The classes will cover topics such as:
Energy Conservation - suggesting small changes to help conserve energy in homes.
Job Seekers - teaching resume preparation and job searching techniques.
Stretching your food budget - menu planning, coupon/ sales ad shopping & recipe preparation.
Budgeting - teaching skills to help clients understand and develop a livable budget.
More information coming soon!

ESC Recognized for Safety!
The Missouri Rural Services Workers Compensation Insurance Trust recently recognized Economic Security Corporation by inducting them into the Hall of Fame for Excellence in Accident Prevention. This designation was provided for the term from 4/1/03 through 3/31/06.
The designation follows a reduction in our experience modification rate which is used to set our insurance premiums. The goal is for the rating to be below a 1, and ESC has decreased our rating from 1.33 to .89 this year.
In 2001, ESC's premiums were up by 101%. Over the last two years the rate has decreased due to the added attention our workers have given to safety on the job. We would like to thank all of our staff members for their help in earning us this honor! |

Make a Donation...
Year after year, United Way of Southwest Missouri combines our caring with that of all our co-workers to support programs that truly change lives. This joint effort makes sure that every donor's investment works hard to help those who need our help in the community.
As an agency committed to easing the burden of poverty in our communities, we spend a lot of our time and effort helping those who are struggling in our community. Through a donation to the United Way you can help financially as well. Donations provide support to many of the agencies that our clients receive additional services from. These include Lafayette House, Community Clinic, Arthritis Association of SW MO, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Children's Haven and Legal Aid of Western Missouri.
If you would like to make a donation to support this vital community effort, please contact John Joines, ESC's CEO, for a donor card. |
