November 2009 ESC News
Hello!
ESC to Host Gardasil Clinic

ESC will be hosting another Gardasil vaccination clinic at MSSU on November 2nd and 3rd. The clinic will be held at the Student Health Center, where vaccinations will be provided to any local female between the ages of 18 and 26 who does not have insurance, whose insurance does not cover the vaccine or who can not otherwise afford it.

We are excited to be nearing the end of another successful project. Since ESC started the Gardasil project, an estimated 2000 young women have received the vaccination.

The National theme for Gardasil is "One Less." We want young women to be "one less" cancer statistic. Gardasil is a 3-shot vaccination series that prevents some forms of HPV, the virus that causes cervical cancer and other infections.

Did you know?
Cervical Cancer was once the LEADING cause of cancer death in women in the United States. By age 50, 80% of women will get the virus that causes cervical cancer.

Energy Assistance for Winter

In October, the Community Development Division began providing Energy Assistance to low-income households in ESC's four county service area. October processing of applications is limited to those 60 years or older or households with a disabled head of household or spouse.

The program will be opened to all other eligible applicants beginning on November 3rd. Funds for both the Energy Assistance program (EA) and the Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) will be available at that time.

Energy Assistance (EA) benefits are based on income level, household size and the type of fuel used as the primary heat source. No shut off notice is needed.

The Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) can assist with primary and/or secondary heating sources with a shut off notice or cancelled service. Eligible households can receive assistance up to a maximum of $800 per program season through this program.

The winter season for Energy Assistance will run through March 31, 2010. Both programs have income guidelines. Applicants must provide social security cards and proof of income for everyone in the household, along with the utility bill for their primary heating source along with the application. If they have questions about what information is required, they are encouraged to contact a member of the Community Development division at one of the ESC Outreach Offices.

Funding for this program is provided by the State of Missouri Department of Social Services, Family Support Division.
