ESC Celebrates with our Graduates!

31 students participated in ESC's Graduating With A Future program this year. We are proud to announce that 14 of those students graduated with their class of 2010! They should be very proud of this accomplishment and we wish them the best success in their future pursuits.

ESC recently hosted a Graduation Celebration to recognize all of the students who participated this school year. Over 50 people attended the event which was held at Granny Shaffers on May 6th. The graduation celebration included dinner, student recognitions and senior recognitions. The Jamison Alexander  Celebration of Life Scholarship was also awarded to one of the graduates.

The Mission of Graduating With A Future (GWAF) is: To improve the long term quality of life for students at risk of not graduating high school by providing assistance to students and their families in obtaining services from the community, school districts and community service providers.

ESC's First Health Fair!

On May 19th, ESC held its first ever employee Health and Safety Fair. There were over 300 employees in attendance. Over 15 vendors participated in the event, providing valuable information on health and safety.

Several  participating vendors offered health screenings, such as hearing, vision, dental, blood pressure checks and blood screenings for cholestrol and glucose. The blood mobile was also there and 31 employees were able to donate blood during the event.

The health fair included several workshops which presented information to employees on how to handle stress, how to eat healthy on $2.99 per meal, healthy eating for diabetics, self-defense, financial freedom, smoking cessation and much more.

Lunch was provided and the day ended with the annual employee award presentations. Many door prizes were also given away to attendees.

ESC felt that the event was very beneficial to the employees who were in attendance. We would like to extend a special thank you to all of the participating vendors who made it such a successful event!

Neosho Gearing up for Back to School!

The We Care Fair of Neosho, which serves Newton County residents, is gearing up for it's second annual back to school fair. The event will be held at the Abundant Life Church in Neosho on July 31st.

Enrollment will be taking place until July 12th at ESC's Newton County outreach office (116 N. Jefferson, Neosho). The fair serves students in grades K-12. Parents who enroll for the fair will be required to provide social security cards for everyone in the household and proof of address.

This year there will be only one entrance to the fair. Those who enroll will receive a passport for each child. There will be several booths at the event where participants can receive valuable health checks, clothing, haircuts and information about community resources. Once participants have visited the required booths, their passports can be presented to ESC staff to receive their school supplies.

We are greatly looking forward to the event and hope that it will be as successful as it was last year!

Barton County Preparing for School!

ESC's Back to School fair plans in Barton County are progressing nicely. Over 270 students are already pre-registered for the event, which will be held in Lamar on July 23rd. The deadline for registration is July 16th. Any applicants who miss the deadline will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Twenty-four vendors have already signed up to participate this year. We are excited to be able to offer on-site hearing screenings to participating students. It is often suprising how much hearing damage can be done at an early age as a result of loud music and other noises.

For more information or to pre-register, please contact the Barton County outreach office at 417-682-5591.

How can you help?

Donations for the event are coming in slowly and we continue to be amazed at the community commitment during such a time of struggle for our area. If you would like to contribute to one of the fairs, please contact your local ESC office for more information on needed supplies or resources.

We appreciate all of the support we receive for these valuable community projects!
